Aaron Murdick’s Fudge = Michigan Tradition

Aaron Murdick’s great- great-grandfather, Newton Jerome Murdick, developed and perfected the process of “creaming” fudge on a marble slab in the summer of 1887 on Mackinac Island. The fact that he was to be the founder of one of the most successful “cottage industries” in American history, probably never crossed his mind; but the delight on the faces of those fortunate few to be the first to sample his creation must certainly have caught his attention, and must have brought an even bigger smile to his face.

Aaron Murdick’s great- grandfather Jerold Murdick, and his grandfather, Francis Murdick, opened Murdick’s Famous Fudge in Charlevoix, Michigan in 1953.  Fran created his fabulous treats in Mackinaw City, with his son, John, and grandson, Aaron, joining him in his candy kitchen.  Since Francis Murdick passed on, John and Aaron Murdick now sell these same wonderful candies and fudge in Mackinaw City.
